My 3/4# of Bacon and four Jumbo Eggs is fantastic. -- I buy Cloverdale Bacon Chunks and Pieces for $2.99 'On Sale' for three pounds at our local grocery store! It's usually $3.99 on sale but sometimes they get a pretty fat batch and go lower still. -- It's about $5.99 regular price for the 3# package.
I bring it home and cut it in four parts and bag them in zip locks and put them in my freezer. That's four 12 oz or 3/4# packages per 3#. -- I usually buy 10 or 15 of them and freeze them. -- That's 30 or 40 or 50 pounds of bacon at a time when they are on sale.
This equals $.75 or seventy five cents for each 12oz package. -- the eggs are about $1.60 a dozen right now so that makes for a 75 and 40 cent meal or $1.15 per meal. -- The bacon provides the seasoning and usually I have fat left over in the pan to fry my steak and other meat in.
Today I did the bacon and then scrambled my eggs into the bacon and grease so the eggs would suck up all the grease. -- There was about 1/4 of an inch of grease.
It worked great and I went to hog heaven. -- I usually just fry my eggs and they suck up the grease pretty good that way too!
They also have there own ground pork sausage on sale pretty often for $1.19 a pound and sometimes $.99 a pound. It's regularly $1.79 a pound. I do the same thing with it, it hardly has any grease at all, enough to fry the eggs but that's about all.
I'm lucky we have this good a grocery store here. -- They often have Chuck Steaks and Chuck Eye Steaks on sale to for $2.49 a pound and $3.19 a pound. -- I stock up on them too! -- I pan fry or boil or bake or broil these and about everything I eat.
I go in streaks, sometimes I boil a lot, sometimes I bake a lot, sometimes I fry a lot and sometimes I broil a lot. -- It's all easy. -- Just throw it on and season it if you want too! -- I did zero seasonings of any kind for several months once and that was great too! -- It took a little getting on to but right away the real taste of the food came ringing through and it was great too!
I don't eat much raw, I probably should.
I eat Spam and Baloney a lot of times when I'm away from home and didn't bring anything. -- Sometimes two or three pounds of one or the other in a day if I'm doing a lot and I am hungry!
Water, always water!
Sam's Club is our big chain discount store and I can often buy 50# bags of onions that make you cry(low sugar)(I won't buy sweet onions). These 50# bags usually sell for about $20 or often less! -- About 30 to 40 cents a pound this way.
I buy my Wild Rice locally for about $5.00 a pound in 50# lots. -- I haven't been eating my rice lately but I have about 60# on hand.
Brussels Sprouts and Cabbage and Cauliflower and fresh green beans and some of the others I buy frozen or fresh a lot and eat them too. -- Again lately it's just been meat and eggs. I get lazy. -- I like all that other stuff.
The Wild Rice costs me $1.25 for a 1/4# meal or $.63 for a 1/8# meal plus the meat and vegetable. The vegetable usually costs about $1.50 for a 1# package except for the onion which I eat most, it cost about $.40 cents for a pound!
That's everything, drink only water and never snack. -- I eat twice a day, you can eat however you want!
Boiling and baking work great too! -- Prepare your food so that it really tastes great! -- I don't recommend the nitrates in the bacon. -- It's all I can afford.
I'm starting to eat a lot of fish and seafood again too! I love it!
Good Luck to you!
