My dads older brother my uncle Victor Bunnell Junior went down with the ship in 1941 and my dad Thomas Bunnell Senior joined the Navy to avenge the sinking of The USS Houston.. My dad died coming home from the war of strep throat in 1945.. He was on his way home. He made it to New York and then Chicago and then Minneapolis but he slipped into a coma and died in a hospital there about two hundred miles from his home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota..
The Red Cross came and got us and there were no planes available.
We got there by bus just before he died..
Me and my sister Patty and Ma and my Uncle Clifford my mothers youngest brother..
I was three months old..
Patty was two
Ma was twenty four
Dad was twenty six
Clifford was sixteen
It is for he and my uncle and his shipmates and all of the people and soldiers and civilians and families on all sides of this war and all wars that have fought and killed and died in these insane wars and the taking over of other countries that I discovered the cause of war and killing and greed and everything that goes with it.
Jack Smith another survivor of The USS Houston and Birds shipmate welcomed me..
